Kia ora Steven,

We are contacting you regarding your two recent information requests. The
first was your request asking for Fire Appliance Repair Costs for 32
appliances. The second was regarding any planning involved in 18 different
fire stations across the country. These are both very large requests that
would both likely require substantial collation and research. We also note
you are prepared to reduce the amount of information you are requesting.
The purpose of this email is to suggest refinements to your requests to
assist us to provide information to you.

 1. Request for appliance repair costs. You requested a breakdown
outlining minor repairs as well as any significant work carried out on
the appliances including details with what work was carried out, by
which contractor and what the total cost was for that repair/service
is not information we hold. What we can provide you with is a table by
appliance showing the total spend broken down into repairs,
maintenance, and servicing. We can provide this information from 2002
forward. It also contains a very high-level description of the work
done which may not include all the work done, particularly if there
were multiple items on the same invoice.
 2. Request for any planning involved in the fire stations you list.
Providing all information regarding any planning whatsoever for these
stations is likely to yield thousands of documents as all
correspondence and all documents produced relating to any changes or
possible changes discussed regarding these stations would fall within
scope of the request. Even if we could provide these documents in the
timeframe, many of them are likely to be documents discussing possible
ways of thinking about planning as we go forward, rather than plans
that are approved or likely to come to fruition. Given this, we
suggest that you refine your request to be for details of
projects-in-flight and approved business cases for upcoming works for
the stations you identify. This would provide you with information on
projects that are likely to come about and would mean the workload for
the request is something we are likely to be able to provide within
the OIA timeframe.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this email.

A response would be appreciated so we can move forward with your request,
and in accordance with section 15(1AA) of the Official Information Act
198, once we have received a reply your request is deemed to be received
by Fire and Emergency. When we have that reply, we will write to you as
soon as possible with our decision on your request in the 20 working days.
