Information about LED street lights

Michael Vaughan made this Official Information request to Auckland Transport

The request was successful.

From: Michael Vaughan

Dear Auckland Transport,

1) What is the frequency of the RF transmissions from the LED street lights in Auckland? How frequently are the RF transmissions taking place and what is the duration of the transmissions?

2) What information are the light units collecting and transmitting?

3) Do any of the LED lights contain any sort of camera or any sort of surveillance equipment?

4) Please give details of the spectrum of light emitted by the LED lights and whether any advice has been obtained by A.T. from eye care professionals? The LED lights seem incredibly harsh to me.

5) Do the LED lights in Auckland area contain any sort of Comfort Diffuser to reduce glare? If not, please explain why. If they do, please explain why the LED lights are so harsh that it is not possible to look at them, whereas street lighting in the past has involved lighting much more comfortable to the eye.

6) Is the installation of LED Street Lamps in the Auckland area connected in any way with the plans of Telecommunication companies to roll-out 5G technology?

Thank you.

Dear AT Official Information (AT),

Thank you for your reply.

Please can you clarify the process by which the LED lights gather the data you have outlined, in particular whether or not the LED lights are emitting RF radiation in this process.

Please can you also supply information about the spectrum of light emitted by the LED lights, in particular how much blue light is emitted relative to other parts of the colour spectrum.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Vaughan

Dear AT Official Information (AT),

I would like an explanation from Alan Wallace to inform me of the reasons for his inaccurate information about some of the LED lights in Auckland. Mr. Wallace failed to include information about the LED lights in Auckland centre which apparently include cameras and transmit different frequencies of RF radiation than those mentioned in his replies to my OIA requests on this matter. Mr. Wallace's replies appear to be inaccurate and misleading according to information contained in the attached article by Spark NZ. https://www.sparknz.co.nz/news/spark-pav...

Yours sincerely,

Michael Vaughan
