Breakdown of court costs for death-row dog 'Jimbo'
Thomas Pietkiewicz made this Official Information request to Hamilton City Council
The request was successful.
From: Thomas Pietkiewicz
Dear Hamilton City Council,
Could you please provide me with a comprehensive breakdown of the court costs incurred for the death-row dog 'Jimbo'?
The owner is Carolyn Kin and here is the related news article http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/articl....
The court costs have been stated as $67,503, but I would like a full break down, as ratepayers money have been used.
Yours faithfully,
Thomas Pietkiewicz

Dear Kerry Fabrie,

From: Kerry Fabrie
Good morning Mr Pietkiewicz; thank you for your patience on this. I am aware of the 20 days around the official information request; as I am (very) aware I am now falling outside of this. I need assistance with the invoices (they are not itemised) from the relevant staff and they are on leave so I am struggling to sort this one.
I have now set up a meeting with another person who I am hoping can help analyse the invoices with me so that I can generate a response.
Please be assured that I am conscious that we are outside our response time; and do appreciate your patience.
My meeting is tomorrow and I will pull it all together straight after.
Again, thank you.
Kind regards
Kerry

Good morning Mr PietKiewicz
In response to your query regarding the legal costs, the total amount to
date is: $67,503.09.
This can be divided into:
· Council's defence preparation to Ms King's initial appeal for
Council impounding the dog – District Court
· The prosecution case of Ms King – District Court
· The prosecution case of Mr Te Whata –District Court (this case
was withdrawn when Mr Te Whata signed handover)
· Ms King's second appeal – High Court
The invoices on record unfortunately do not detail this breakdown. We can
obtain a breakdown from our lawyers however there will be a charge for
this work; and we would need to recover this charge from yourself.
Kindly advise if you require us to obtain a breakdown.
Kind regards
Kerry

Sorry - I should have flicked you this again - you may want to send it to
potential candidates. I really need an almost immediate response
now…sorry and thanks in anticipation.
I had the good fortune to have a business card drawn by the Blanchard
International (NZ) Expo stand at Conference. They are Leadership and
Organisational Development Consultants. As a result, I have scored a
place on their two-day (Auckland) workshop on 9/10 September - Situational
Leadership II (SLII). It's worth $2,350 + GST!
It doesn't have to be me who attends and I don't think I can. It would be
a real shame if we didn't take advantage and I would love to hear who you
think would benefit - including of course ET members! I have some
details in my office, but also have a look (soon) on

Thanks to Thomas Pietkiewicz and Kylie Fowler for their attention to this matter - this request was NOT successful - the requester was FOBBED OFF! Ratepayers are ENTITLED to know how their money is spent and this is an example of an unlawful refusal to provide the information and indication of a very sloppy work culture - over a year after Thomas made this request it appears that NO attempt has been made to review this outrageous legal bill whatsoever! Accordingly I have requested a breakdown myself and copies of all legal advice received because it is clear that the lawyers and Council staff involved in this matter SHOULD BE SACKED!!!
My request is at this link, and you can see the abrupt about turn from the incompetent woman who sent the training email Kylie refers to - DO NOT ACCEPT LIES AND EVASIVE RESPONSES!!! Do what I did and INSIST on the information being provided because WE PAY FOR THIS INCOMPETENCE AND CORRUPTION AND WE ARE ENTITLED TO THIS INFORMATION!!! Kerry Fabrie of the Council knows this perfectly well and should be sacked for laziness and dishonesty! Increasingly people are being hired for jobs in the public sector based on their ability to lie and fob people off! My request is at this link and you can clearly see that we should NOT be accepting lies and excuses - we pay these people's wages and this is a great big gravy train where lawyers and public servants fill their pockets and laugh all the way to the bank!

Why is the 'response' a Leadership Training email?
