Dear A Parish

Thank you for your request made under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, received on 8 August 2018. You requested the following information:

1. Total number of privacy complaints Wellington City Council has received from 1 June 2016 to the present date

2. How many of these privacy complaints were laid by Council staff

3. The Business Unit in which each of these staff members work

4. How many of these privacy complaints were escalated to a Personal Grievance process, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner or the Human Rights Commission.

From the period 1 June 2016 to 8 August 2018, Wellington City Council received 34 complaints regarding privacy. Of these complaints, four were raised by WCC staff members; three from our Community Networks unit and one from Customer Services & Innovation. None of these complaints were escalated to an internal Personal Grievance process, or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner or Human Rights Commission.

I note that Wellington City Council appointed a dedicated Principal Privacy Officer in February 2016, and centralised privacy incident reporting commenced in July 2016. For this reason, although all effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the response to your request, we do not hold a definite record of privacy complaints raised prior to July 2016.

Thank you again for your request. I trust this information is of assistance to you.

Kind regards,

Maya Jones
