Good morning Mr Johnstone,

Thank you for your request of 31 January 2018, concerning an issue where
tacks were found on the Island Bay cycleway.

 

I have attached two records of the matter being notified through the
Council contact centre. Please note that I have removed the names and
addresses of the members of the public that reported the issue under
section 7(2)(a) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings
Act 1987, to protect the privacy of natural persons. The Council is also
aware of a number of reports of the tacks that were published on social
media, such as Twitter.

 

Upon receiving notification of the tacks, the Council sent an urgent
dispatch to our contractors, Fulton Hogan, to clean the cycleway and
surrounding area. The Council has also reviewed CCTV camera footage in the
area, unfortunately the cameras did not pick up who had thrown the tacks
on the cycleway.

 

If you disagree with my decision you have the right, under section 27(3)
of the Act, to ask the Ombudsman to review and investigate my decision.
