From: Ben Arnold
Dear New Zealand Police,
I am writing to follow up on my request regarding "Documentation confirming 'approved Tow operators' & 'approved storage providers' for the West Auckland service area."
I have patiently waited for the extension period to conclude, with the expectation that the information would be provided as statutorily required under the Official Information Act 1982. Now that the 30th of January 2026 has passed, the response to my request is long overdue.
Under Section 15 of the Act, an agency must decide on a request and notify the requester as soon as reasonably practicable, and in any case not later than 20 working days after receipt, unless an extension is validly made under Section 15A. Even where an extension is applied, the agency is bound by the revised timeframe.
Failure to meet these statutory deadlines constitutes a breach of the Act. As the New Zealand Police are tasked with enforcing the law, it is imperative that the organization also adheres to its legislative obligations. This delay is unacceptable, and I require the immediate release of the requested information.
Yours faithfully,
Ben Arnold

Kia ora Ben
I apologise for the lateness of the response to your OIA. A response has been drafted and is proceeding through Police’s internal review and approval process. As Police are currently experiencing a high volume of requests, I am unable to confirm a release date at this stage, but I can assure you we are endeavouring to get this to you as soon as practicable. You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this delay. Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
