On behalf of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) I
acknowledge your request of 25 September 2025 sent to WorkSafe New Zealand
requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982, the following:
 
These questions are asked of WorkSafe in its role as the Regulator for the
Electricity Act.
Question 1: Are there levies collected from the generation and
distribution of electricity 
which are used by Worksafe?
Question 2: When was the last time and that levies were collected under
the Electricity Act 
which have been used or distributed by Worksafe ?
Question 3: At that time what was the total value of the levies over the
last 5 years?
Question 4: What percentage of the levies were spent on operation and
improvement of 
the ‘demand site installations’ (ie that was not spent on generation, the
electricity market, 
transmission or distribution)?
 
Your request has been transferred to the Ministry of Business, Innovation
and Employment from WorkSafe New Zealand on 3 October 2025 and is being
processed in accordance with the Official Information Act 1982. We will
endeavor to respond to your request as soon as possible, and no later than
3/11/2025, being 20 working days after the day your request it was
received by MBIE. 
 
If we are unable to respond to your request by then, we will notify you of
an extension of that timeframe. If you have any enquiries regarding your
