Electricity Levies
Peter MacMillan made this Official Information request to Electricity Authority
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Peter MacMillan to read recent responses and update the status.
From: Peter MacMillan
Dear Electricity Authority,
These questions are asked of the Electricity Authority in its role as the Regulator for the Electricity Industry (Levy of Industry Participants) Regulations 2010.
Question 1: What was the total values of levies collected in the last 5 years?
Question 2: For each of the five years what proportion (percent and dollars) of the collected levies were spent on operation and improvement of the ‘demand site installations’ (ie that was not spent on generation, the electricity market, transmission, distribution and the EEA)?
Question 3: Can the KWH rate be broken down to the individual cost percentages to make up the consumer rate (Mid-June 2025 western bay of plenty, Distributor. Horizons. Controlled, Powershop controlled ) as advertised of 32.59c
Yours faithfully,
Peter MacMillan

Kia ora Peter
I refer to your official information request dated 25 September 2025 for:
Question 1: What was the total values of levies collected in the last 5
years?
Question 2: For each of the five years what proportion (percent and
dollars) of the collected levies were spent on operation and improvement
of the ‘demand site installations’ (ie that was not spent on generation,
the electricity market, transmission, distribution and the EEA)?
Question 3: Can the KWH rate be broken down to the individual cost
percentages to make up the consumer rate (Mid-June 2025 western bay of
plenty, Distributor. Horizons. Controlled, Powershop controlled ) as
advertised of 32.59c
The OIA requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no
later than 20 working days after the day we received your request.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are
therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our
decision, to 21 November 2025.
This extension is necessary because research and collation necessary to
make a decision on your request is such that a proper response cannot
reasonably be made within the original time limit.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
[1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request with us, including this
decision, please feel free to contact me.
