Dear Auckland Council,
Would you please provide as detailed a summary as possible including any meeting minutes for all meetings attended by Mayor Wayne Brown on Friday 27th January 2023. Ideally this would include the following:
i) accounts for Mayor Brown’s whereabouts between 9am 27th January and 1am 28th January to corroborate the claims he has made,
ii) the exact time that a State of Emergency was called for by Mayor Brown (due to conflicting times and claims from multiple sources),
iii) meeting minutes and times for the first meeting that was held in relation to declaring a state of emergency in Auckland and management of that state of emergency,
iv) any supporting evidence for the claim made by Mayor Brown that a request to send out “text messaging communications” declaring a state of emergency was made on 27th January 2023.

(Council) response to the flooding in Auckland over Auckland Anniversary
Weekend 2023.
Council has received a high number of similar requests for information
about the flooding on Auckland Anniversary weekend, and this has required
substantial collation to identify the information within scope. In
recognition of the public interest in this information, we are collating a
pack of information, which includes all the information within scope of
the related LGOIMA requests we have received, and we intend to share this
information pack with each requester.
We have been working hard to release this information pack to you as soon
as we could. However, we are also continuing to identify potentially
relevant information which requires our consideration before it can be
released. As such, we apologise that we are not in a position to release
the information pack today, 27 March 2023 (as per our previous letter
extending the timeframe for our decision on your request). We anticipate
that we will be able to provide you with the information pack by 12 April
2023.
The information pack is anticipated to contain the following information:
- Mayoral office correspondence between 26 and 28 January 2023
that relates to:
o the flooding on Anniversary weekend, calling the state of emergency,
official responses to flooding and any Auckland Council or AEM decisions
relating to the flooding.
o communication with the public about the flooding (including any
discussion about the criticism of communications), the organisation of
press photos relating to signing the declaration of state of emergency and
other flood related media requests.
