Funding Application Baselining - NZSL (CNZ)

Nic Lane made this Official Information request to Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa

The request was successful.

From: Nic Lane

Dear Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa,

Are you able to give a breakdown by year/fund of the number of funding applications that have been submitted in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) over the last three financial years.

Does your funding platform currently allow for video-based submissions to be assessed, and if not what is the timeline for this?

Thanks in advance,

Nic Lane (he/him)

Kia ora Nic,

Thank you for your request for information on the number of Creative New Zealand funding applications that have been submitted in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) over the last three financial years (2020/21, 2020/19, 2019/20).

Creative New Zealand did not receive any applications in NZSL over the last three financial years. On occasion, an application did include support material in NZSL or links to NZSL material.

Creative New Zealand's Grants Management IT system allows for video-based material to be assessed as part of an application.

Ngā mihi
Pip O'Flaherty

Dear Pip O'Flaherty,

Can you also confirm that there is no policy in place that would prevent an application (or part of) without written language from being accepted?

Yours sincerely,

Nic Lane

Kia ora Nic,

Thanks for your email.

Creative New Zealand does not accept funding agreement sign off in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL).

We're aware that other organisations accept NZSL at the proposal stage but not at the agreement stage and we plan to seek advice on the legal requirements for a funding agreement i.e., is sign off legally required in writing.

I have forwarded your enquiry to Aroha and the team to consider as they develop the Accessibility Policy.

Ngā mihi
