Recurrently funded matched investment (CNZ)

Nic Lane made this Official Information request to Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa

The request was successful.

From: Nic Lane

Dear Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa,

My understanding is Creative New Zealand bases some of their recurrent funding on a percentage of investment clients' other income.

Are you able to supply a breakdown by organisation, of how much investment clients other funds:

Are from alcohol sales, or rental of bar spaces.
Are from gaming trust funds.

Yours faithfully,

Nic Lane [he/him]

Kia ora Nic,

Official Information request regarding Recurrently funded matched
investment

I refer to your official information request, dated 20 December 2021, for
information related to ‘Recurrently funded matched investment’.

Your request has been addressed under the provisions of the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act), which is based on the concept that
information held by government agencies should be made available on
request unless there is good reason for withholding it.

Creative New Zealand does not base investment organisation funding on the
composition of an organisation’s other income. Our funding decisions are
informed by the quality of an organisation’s proposal against set criteria
and the budget we have available to distribute.

We have used funding formula guidelines in the past, and these informed
funding levels for Tôtara organisations in the 2019 RFP process (note they
did not apply to Kahikatea organisations). However, these guidelines
relate to an organisation’s total revenue, not other income.

Section 2.6 of [1]Request for Proposal 2019 describes funding formulae
guidelines and their purpose and alignment with the [2]Investment Strategy
Te Ara Whakamua 2018–2023 | Creative New Zealand (creativenz.govt.nz).

Creative New Zealand does not specifically hold a breakdown by
organisation, of how much investment organisations’ other funds are from
alcohol sales, rental of bar spaces or gaming trust funds.

Revenue sources, other than Creative New Zealand funding, are collected
from investment organisations under the following categories:

o Sales
o Other Government agencies
o Local authority grants
o Corporate sponsorship
o Fundraising / donations
o In-kind support
o Philanthropic and community grants
o Other income.

If there is further information you are interested in, please let us know.

If you wish to discuss this information request, please contact Pip
O’Flaherty (Senior Adviser Organisational Performance) via email
