Police Mistakes green right signal at Domain St Parnell

Sam Alavi made this Official Information request to Auckland Transport

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Sam Alavi to read a recent response and update the status.

From: Sam Alavi

Dear Auckland Transport,

I have just been pulled up by police claiming that I went through a red light at the intersection of Domain and Parnell Road turning into Ayr Street while the right turn arrow at Ayr was green. I tried to inform the police office that the Domain Road red traffic light cannot be red while Ayr right arrow is green, but he would not accept and claimed that I have gone through a red light at Domain Road, admitting that Ayr right turn was green. My argument is that if the right arrow for Ayr is green, then so must be the right arrow at Domain. Can you please confirm if my claim is correct and if possible provide any traffic footage that can be obtained to prove my case. The time of the incident was between 9.50 am to 10.30 am Monday 4 April 2022. My car rego is NKM951.

Yours faithfully,
Sam Alavi

Kia ora Sam

On 4  April 2022, you requested CCTV footage of the intersection at Domain
and Parnell Road turning into Ayr Street. (4 April at 10:12)

The Auckland Transport Operations Centre have downloaded the camera
footage and this has been saved. We do not confirm your claim as correct
regarding the traffic light pattern because you are seen to be approaching
the intersection from Parnell Road and not Dominion.
Auckland Transport does not supply CCTV footage directly to members of the
public due to reasons of privacy. Available footage of a specific incident
or alleged crime will only be released to the New Zealand Police, upon
receipt of a request from them.
Please advise the New Zealand Police about the available footage relating
to the reference number CAS-536096-P9S1Z5 and to contact us directly to
arrange access to the relevant footage.

We are happy to discuss if we have interpreted your request incorrectly.

From: Sam Alavi

Dear AT Official Information (AT),

Thanks for your prompt reply. It is correct that I approached the intersection from Parnell Road, but again I stress that the traffic lights at the intersections of Domain/Parnell and Ayr/Parnell do work in tandem irrespective of the approach side. If Ayr/Parnell show a right turn green arrow, then Domain/Parnell also shows a green arrow and can be crossed. Please advise if this is not correct and that Domain/Parnell right turn arrow can be red while the adjacent Ayr/Parnell right turn arrow is green?

Yours sincerely,

Sam Alavi
