Dear Brodie

Thank you for your Official Information Act request, received via the
Ministry of Health today regarding gender reassignment surgery.

We will provide a formal response to questions four and five of your
request within the 20 working days allowed under the Act.

If for any reason we are unable to meet this deadline and need to extend
the timeframe for your response, we will be in touch to advise why this
has been necessary and to indicate when your response will be ready.

Please note that Waitemata DHB, like other agencies across the state
sector, supports the open disclosure of information to assist the public’s
understanding of how we are delivering publicly-funded healthcare. This
includes the proactive publication of anonymised Official Information Act
responses on our website from 10 working days after they have been
released.

If you feel that there are good reasons why your response should not be
made publicly available, we will be happy to consider this.

Kind regards

Anna

Dear Brodie

I refer to your email dated 17 June 2019 to the Ministry of Health
which they subsequently partially transferred to us today requesting the
following information under the Official Information Act from
Canterbury DHB and West Coast DHB, specifically Questions 4 and 5.

4. How many, if any, transgender individuals have been referred to
endocrine services in New Zealand in the past five years, broken down by
year?

5. How many, if any, transgender individuals have been referred to
endocrine services in New Zealand in the past five years, broken down by
DHB?

We received a similar request in October last year for both Canterbury DHB
and West Coast DHB and our responses to those requests are posted on our
websites. (CDHB 9952 and WCDHB 9221).

[1]https://www.cdhb.health.nz/wp-content/up...

[2]https://www.wcdhb.health.nz/about-us/doc...

I have also attached a copy of these responses for you.

I have checked with the Endocrinology Departments for both DHBs and can
confirm that the situation remains unchanged in that we are unable to
provide an answer to the level of detail you require.

Please advise us if you want us to act further on this request.

Kind regards

Dear Brodie

Thank you for your Official Information Act request, received yesterday by
way of transfer from the Ministry of Health, for our response to Questions
4&5.

We are working on a response for you, which will be sent as soon as
practical and within the 20 working day timeframe as per the Ombudsman's
Guidance, by 18 July 2019. We will contact you if we have any queries with
the request or need to extend the timeframe for your response. In those
cases, we will advise why the extension is necessary, and indicate when
the response will be ready.

Please note that, like all DHBs across New Zealand, Counties Manukau DHB
has begun a process of proactive disclosure, which means OIA responses
will be publicly available via our website around 10 days after they have
been released.  Our response will advise if we intend to publish the
response, (with personal information removed) and related documents on the
CMDHB website. If you advise us of special reasons why proactive
disclosure should not apply to your response, we will consider this.

Kind regards

Dinah

Dear Brodie

Official information request.

I am writing to acknowledge receipt of your official information request
dated 17 June 2019 regarding gender reassignment surgery. Your OIA was
partially transferred (questions four and five) to Wairarapa DHB on the 20
June 2019 from the Ministry of Health.

We received your request on 20 June 2019. We will endeavour to respond to
your request as soon as possible and in any event no later than 18 July
2019, being 20 working days after the day your request was received. If we
are unable to respond to your request by then, we will notify you of an
extension of that timeframe.

If the information requested cannot be made available without substantial
collation, under section 18(f) and section 18A(1)(a) of the Official

section 15. If your request falls into this category we will inform you as
soon as possible.

If any additional factors come to light that are relevant to your request,
please do not hesitate to contact us so that these can be taken into
account.

adopted a model of proactive disclosure which sees OIA responses publicly
available on our website no less than one week after they have been
released.

If you believe there are any special reasons why proactive disclosure
should not apply to your response, we will be happy to consider this.

Yours sincerely
