I  refer  to  your  Official  Information  Act  request,  partially  transferred  to  us  by  the  Ministry  of 
Health on 20 June 2019 in which you specifically requested the following: 
 
How many, if any, transgender individuals have been referred to endocrine services in New Zealand in the 
past five years, broken down by year? 
 
Southern DHB does not code ‘transgender status’ for individuals presenting to our endocrine 
outpatients service. Gathering this data would require manually reviewing the individual records 
of  all  patients  who  attended  the  endocrine  clinic  each  year  for  the  past  five  years.  After 
considering the options of charging or extending the timeframe, we have concluded that we are 
unable  to  respond  to  your  request  under  section  18(f)  of  the Official  Information  Act,  as  the 
information requested cannot be made available without substantial collation or research.
