Request for contact details of Privacy Officer becomes cumbersome
D Dahya made this Official Information request to Kāinga Ora–Homes and Communities
Response to this request is long overdue. By law Kāinga Ora–Homes and Communities should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: D Dahya
Dear Housing New Zealand Corporation,
On the 26/4/17 I emailed HNZC for the contact details of the Privacy Officer as there wasn't any noted on the HNZ website and after receiving 2 responses to my simple request I responded as per below;
Hi Customer Service Team?
Firstly, I would like to know who I am dealing with in this correspondence - the emails are signed with a title not the actual staff member's name.
Secondly, is there any reason why you need my address details ie Why would you need to know whether I'm a HNZ resident or not and, if am, what difference would that make and how will you respond once you know that I may be?
Why am I being asked about why I want the Privacy Officer details?
It is self explanatory - I want to know who I can send my information request to and do not need to be asked the details of my request.
Thirdly, I am not prepared to provide details of my actual request as some of these requests may be confidential/private in nature hence the reason why organisations have Privacy Officers.
Lastly, any government agency should have on hand the contact details of the Privacy Officer and a simple request to it should not be drawn out nor be cumbersome. In addition to the above queries I have asked the following questions;
- How many Privacy Officers do you have as you have indicated more than one (there should only be one)?
- Who is the Privacy Officer for your organization?
Yours sincerely,
D Dahya
