Statuses for EF's 30111 and 30157
trainlover67 made this Official Information request to KiwiRail
The request was successful.
From: trainlover67
Dear KiwiRail,
I am wondering what the current statuses for EF's 30111 and 30157 are?. I understand that 30157 caught fire in late 2015, but I've heard that this loco, along with 30111, are now withdrawn and I'm not sure if this is true or not. And if this is true, what was the reason for the 30111's withdrawal?
Yours faithfully,
trainlover67

Dear Trainlover67
We are writing in response to your request dated 28 December 2016 requesting information on the status of EF locomotives 30111 and 30157. Your questions have been answered under the Official Information Act 1982. Our response is below.
1. I am wondering what the current statuses for EFs 30111 and 30157 are?
Both the EF 30111 and EF 30157 are currently in stored status.
2. I understand that EF 30157 caught fire in late 2015, but I've heard that this loco, along with EF 30111, are now withdrawn and I'm not sure if this is true or not? And if this is true, what was the reason for the EF 30111's withdrawal
The EF 30157 did suffer a fire and is currently quarantined by the Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC).
The EF 30111 required an air compressor change but KiwiRail required the use of the locomotive’s bogies for another EF. KiwiRail has no need to restore the EF 30111 to operation at this time.
Under s28(3) of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review this response. Please refer to www.ombudsman.parliament.nz for more information.

I believe EF30111 is no longer in service due to no Fire Suppression how ever I am unable to confirm.
