KiwiRail
Good afternoon Sir/Madam
We are writing in response to your Official Information Act 1982 request
dated 22 December 2016 concerning information on EF class locomotives on
the North Island Main Trunk line (NIMT). Your questions and KiwiRail’s
response are outlined below:
1. Now that the electric wires will be taken down what a to be done
with the EF class
2. Will they be scrapped or preserved?
3. And if one such loco is preserved where will it run?
KiwiRail has yet to make a final decision on the use of the surplus
Electric (EF) locomotives following the recent decision to replace the
existing EF fleet on the North Island Main Trunk
Line with diesel locomotives.
To keep future options open, KiwiRail will not be removing the
infrastructure required for electric trains on the NIMT.
Under s28(3) of the Act, you have the right to seek an investigation and
review of this decision by way of complaint to the Ombudsman. Refer to
[1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz for more information.
Regards
Louise
