Good afternoon Sir/Madam

 

We are writing in response to your Official Information Act 1982 request
dated 8 November 2016 for the following information:

 

“I am wondering what the statuses are for DFT's 7132, 7145 and 7295? I've
heard rumours that they are either laid up, undergoing overhauls to DFB's
or undergoing major repairs, and I'm not sure if they are true or not.”

 

DFTs 7132, 7145 and 7295 are not laid up or involved in the DFB program.

 

The DFT 7132 is authorised to run as a “Trail Unit Only” until KiwiRail
has completed an assessment of the locomotive. Following the assessment of
DFT 7132 KiwiRail may need to undertake repair work.

 

The DFT 7145 is undergoing heavy repairs to address corrosion and to
change the locomotive’s fuel tank and bogies.

 

The DFT 7295 has been repaired to resolve corrosion issues. The locomotive
is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance before returning to service.

 

Under s28(3) of the Act, you have the right to seek an investigation and
review of this response by way of complaint to the Ombudsman.  Refer to
[1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz for more information.
