Future of the laid up DFT's and DC's

trainlover67 made this Official Information request to KiwiRail

The request was successful.

From: trainlover67

Dear KiwiRail,

I am wondering what the future is for DFT's 7049, 7064, 7077, 7199 and 7335? As I understand that 7023, 7282 and 7322 are being rebuilt and converted to DFB's?

I am also wondering what the future is for DC's 4035, 4093, 4104, 4248, 4369, 4375, 4381, 4415, 4536, 4922 and DCP's 4818 and 4945?

Yours faithfully,

trainlover67

Dear Sir/Madam

We are writing in response to your Official Information Act 1982 request
dated 4 September 2016 requesting information on the future of DFT and DC
locomotives. Your questions and KiwiRail’s response are outlined below:

“ I am wondering what the future is for DFT's 7049, 7064, 7077, 7199 and
7335? As I understand that 7023, 7282 and 7322 are being rebuilt and
converted to DFB's?

I am also wondering what the future is for DC's 4035, 4093, 4104, 4248,
4369, 4375, 4381, 4415, 4536, 4922 and DCP's 4818 and 4945?”

The DFT 7282 and DFT 7322 have been selected for rebuild to a DFB class
locomotive with Brightstar and work has begun to strip DFT 7282.

In the 2016/2017 financial year a further three DFTs will be rebuilt as
DFB locomotives. However, KiwiRail has yet to confirm exactly which DFTs
will be rebuilt. The following locomotives are currently out of service
and are candidates for DFB conversion program:

·         DFT 7023
·         DFT 7049
·         DFT 7064
·         DFT 7077
·         DFT 7199

DFT 7335 is currently being stored and may be considered as a candidate
for the DFB conversion programme in the future.

The following DCs and DCPs are currently out of service and are due to be
retired in FY (Financial Year) 2017:

·         DC 4093
·         DC 4248
·         DC 4104

·         DC 4922
·         DC 4369
·         DC 4375

·         DC 4381

·         DC 4415
·         DC 4536
·         DC 4035
·         DCP 4818
·         DCP 4945

Under s28(3) of the Act, you have the right to seek an investigation and
review of this decision by way of complaint to the Ombudsman.  Refer to
[1]www.ombudsman.govt.nz for more information.

Regards

Louise
