This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for William Foster to read recent responses and update the status.

From: William Foster

Dear Auckland Transport,

I request the following information under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987.

Purpose
To enable an evidence-based assessment of how public transport operating costs, fare revenue, and subsidy can be reasonably attributed across Auckland Council Local Board areas.

1. Service Supply Data

For all bus, rail, and ferry services:

a) Scheduled service kilometres by route and, if available, by route segment
b) Scheduled service hours by route and, if available, by route segment
c) Any available actual service kilometres and hours operated (i.e. post-cancellation/variation)

If possible, please provide these with geospatial references (e.g. GTFS shapes or equivalent) sufficient to allocate service to Auckland Council Local Board areas.

2. Patronage Data

a) Boardings by stop/station/wharf
b) Alightings by stop/station/wharf (if recorded or estimated)
c) If available, origin–destination trip data (aggregated), showing trips between boarding and alighting locations

Please include stop/station identifiers and coordinates.

3. Fare Revenue Data

a) Total fare revenue by mode (bus, rail, ferry)
b) If available, fare revenue by boarding location
c) If available, fare revenue by origin–destination pair (aggregated)
d) Any available average fare per trip by mode or stage

4. Operating Cost Data

a) Total public transport operating expenditure, by mode
b) If available, operating cost by route or service unit
c) Any internal cost allocation methodology used (e.g. cost per service hour or km by mode)

5. Supporting Data and Definitions

a) The total annual patronage figure used by Auckland Transport.
b) Definitions used for:
• “service kilometres”
• “service hours”
• “boardings” and “alightings”
c) Any published or internal methodology for farebox recovery or subsidy calculation

6. Spatial Boundaries

If available, please provide or confirm:
• The GIS shapefile or dataset used by Auckland Transport for stop, station, and route locations
• Any mapping Auckland Transport uses to relate transport data to Auckland Council Local Board areas

Format

I request the data in machine-readable format (e.g. CSV, Excel, or GIS-compatible files such as shapefiles or GeoJSON).

Notes
• Please use the last full year data available for this request (2024-2025, or 2023-2024 if not). Aggregated data is sufficient; no personal or identifiable information is requested.
• If any part of this request is likely to be refused due to substantial collation or research, I am willing to refine the request to a subset of the data that is most readily available.

Please advise if clarification is required, or if AT holds the data in a form that can satisfy the purpose without providing the data requested.

Kind regards,

William Foster
