How many incidences of crime have been reported along the Hutt River
walkway between Silverstream Bridge and Hikoikoi Walkway in 2014 and 2015?
 This includes crimes against people, animals, and property

 

The purpose of this email is to notify you that Police requires an
extension of time in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section
15A(1) of the Official Information Act 1982, because the request
necessitates a search through a large quantity of information such that a
proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the
original time limit.

 

Police require until 30 September 2015 to provide a substantive response
to your request. 

 

You have the right to complain to the Office of the Ombudsmen about this
extension.

I am writing in response to your request for information, dated 5 August
2015 , made under the Official Information Act (OIA) 1982 relating to the
number of incidences of crime reported along the Hutt River walkway
between Silverstream Bridge and Hikoikoi Walkway in 2014.

 

Police has historically produced statistics based on Police boundaries not
specific areas or locations. However, we have recently developed a new
collection on victimisations that would allow crime aggregation down to
meshblock level.

 

Kindly identify the meshblocks for the above area between Silverstream
Bridge and Hikoikoi Walkway and we will endeavour to provide you
victimisation statistics for such.

As you may already be aware, you have the right under section 28(3) of the
OIA to seek a review of my handling of your request by the Office of the

Hi Alice,
 
A meshblock is the smallest geographic unit for which statistical data is
collected by Statistics New Zealand. It is very similar to a lot
number for real estate properties.
 
You can check with the city council or Statistics New Zealand to help
you identify the meshblock numbers for the area you have specified.

Dear New Zealand Police,

Please clarify what you mean by "meshblock"? You have provided no details
or reference point as to what meshblocks apply along the Hutt River
walkway between Silverstream Bridge and Hikoikoi Reserve. I can't tell you
what meshblocks apply if you are the only one who knows what a "meshblock"
is and how it applies to the area I have specified.

Hi Alice,
 
I would like to apologise for the time it took to us respond to you. We
are currently dealing with a big volume of request that it takes us time
to service each one of them. We endeavour to respond to requests within 20
working days, otherwise we request for extension.
 
If you can provide me the meshblock numbers within this week, I'll make
sure that you get your information by 8th October.

Dear New Zealand Police,

Thank you for the guidance on how to find the meshblocks I require. I am
disappointed it has taken six weeks for you to inform me that you require
the meshblocks in order to answer my request for information.  

I am making a submission in regards to safe dog exercise areas to Hutt
City Council on Thursday 8 October. If I now supply the meshblocks for the
crime data I have requested, do you think you would have the data to me in
time? Or has this whole process been a waste of time.
