The University has recently announced the members of the Review Committee for the proposed merger of the Law and Business faculties.

Please provide:
- The cost to the University of flying Professors Rick Bigwood and Shelley Griffiths from Otago and Queensland respectively for the Review Committee meeting scheduled for the w/c 3 February 2025;
- A breakdown of any other costs to the University related to the Review Committee and its processes or members;
- Any documents or communications discussing the appointment of the Committee members, with particular focus on justifying why there are no practising lawyers, barristers, or KCs on the Committee.

Please provide this information in an accessible, searchable format.

Dear Requestor,

 

I refer to your request of 10 February 2025. As consultations necessary to
make a decision on your request are such that a response cannot reasonably
be given within the original time limit, the University has extended the
time limit for your request by 5 working days under section 15A(1)(b) of
the OIA. The new maximum time limit for the University’s response is 17
March 2025; we will respond to your request as soon as reasonably
practicable. You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you
are dissatisfied with this extension.

The full travel costs for the external members of the review committee are
below:

Flights & Accommodation:  

Prof. Rick Bigwood (BNE/AKL/BNE) 3 Feb | 6 Feb - $1,764.53

Flights only (as has alternate accommodation):

Prof. Shelley Griffiths Shiels (DUN/AKL/DUN) 4 Feb | 9 Feb - $868.64

“- A breakdown of any other costs to the University related to the Review
Committee and its processes or members;”

The full breakdown of any other costs to the University, related to the
Review Committee and its process or members is below:

•              Catering from Urban Gourmet, the University’s contracted
supplier at $999 ex GST. 

 

“- Any documents or communications discussing the appointment of the
Committee members, with particular focus on justifying why there are no
practising lawyers, barristers, or KCs on the Committee."

The requested documents are attached, subject to some information being
withheld under s 9(2)(a) to protect the privacy of natural persons.

You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are not
satisfied with this response.
