Dear requester,

I refer to your request of 3 April 2025. Dear Requestor,

I refer to your request of 3 April 2025.  We apologise for the delay in
our response.  The University’s response follows:

‘On 3 April 2025, law students received an email from the Acting Dean of
Law entitled “Update on the Proposed Combination between Business and
Economics and Law - from the Dean of the Auckland Law School”. This is a
request for information references in that email.

Please provide all information possible regarding:

- the decision that the Council Meeting scheduled for 7 April to vote on
the Proposed Combination between the Faculty of Business and Economics and
the Faculty of Law not proceed;’

The extraordinary Council meeting scheduled for 7 April 2025 was cancelled
to allow more time to consider all options for the proposed new faculty
arrangements for Law and Business & Economics.

‘- the “further options” that the University is considering;’

At the date of this response, we understand that the Vice-Chancellor has
decided to pause the proposal and will instead support a suite of
collaborative faculty initiatives that respond to the challenges driving
the original proposal, and reflect the extensive feedback received from
across the University community. Further information has been provided on
the University’s website here:
[1]https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/news/notic...

‘- the decision to hold a hui to discuss these “options”; and

- the decision to communicate these decisions to students.’

Whenever the University makes a decision that will impact students, it is
always the intention of the University to communicate the decision(s) to
impacted students as soon as possible.  The Acting Dean of Law, Jaime
King, sent the following communication to law students on 5 June 2025,
regarding the Vice-Chancellor’s decision to pause the proposal:
