Dear K Jack,

I refer to your request of 27 March 2025. As consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a response cannot reasonably be given within the original time limit, the University has extended the time limit for your request until 27 May 2025 under section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA. We will respond to your request as soon as reasonably practicable.

You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are dissatisfied with this extension.

Yours sincerely,

Dear K Jack,

I refer to your request of 27 March 2025 under the Official Information
Act 1982 (“OIA”). I apologise for the delay in the University’s response.
The University’s response follows.

Your request was extremely broad; it is not possible to provide all of the
information requested without substantial collation or research. You may
be aware that, on 5 June 2025, the Vice-Chancellor announced the decision
to pause the proposal for the merger of the Faculty of Law and the Faculty
of Business and Economics and will instead support a suite of
collaborative faculty initiatives that respond to the challenges driving
the original proposal, and reflect the extensive feedback received from
across the University community. This announcement is available on the
University’s website at
[1]https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/news/notic....

There was significant interest around this proposal at the time and the
University has provided a large number of documents in response to
requests for official information about the proposal. Many of these
documents are also responsive to your request. Please see the publicly
available responses here:

Two additional OIA responses from the University to requesters on this
topic have been attached, with personal information about the requesters
redacted.

Your requests for documents made publicly available at the links above are
refused under section 18(d) of the OIA. Where information you requested
has been provided above with redactions, or has been withheld under
section 9(2)(a) to protect the privacy of natural persons, sections
9(2)(ba)(i) and 9(2)(ba)(ii) to protect information which is subject to an
obligation of confidence, section 9(2)(g)(i) to maintain the effective
conduct of public affairs through the free and frank expression of
opinions by or between or to members of the University in the course of
their duty, and section 9(2)(h), to maintain legal professional privilege,
it has been redacted/withheld under the same ground for this response. To
the extent that the information you requested has not been provided above
(either attached to this email or by providing you with links to access it
on the internet), and it has not been withheld under the substantive
grounds specified above, your request is refused under section 18(f) of
the OIA, as it cannot be provided without substantial collation or
research.

If you wish to make a further request for specific official information
after reviewing the material provided with this response, we will respond
as soon as reasonably practicable within the OIA’s maximum time limit of
20 working days (unless this is extended under the OIA). You have the
right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are dissatisfied with
this response.

Yours sincerely,
