Kia ora Sarah,

 

I'd like to acknowledge receipt of your official information request for
information on whether there is any asbestos in the trains being
demolished in Taumarunui.

 

We received your request on 14 March 2024 and will endeavour to respond to
your request as soon as possible and in any event no later than 15 April
2024 i.e. the 20 working days after the day your request was received.

 

If we are unable to respond to your request by then, we will notify you of
an extension of that timeframe.

OIA request:
Please can you advise whether there is any asbestos in the trains being
demolished in Taumarunui.

If so, what measures have been taken to minimise impact.

 

Response:

There is no asbestos in these carriages as they were rebuilt fully by
Hillside workshops in the early 2000s.

 

This release is under the OIA, and as such you have the right to seek an
investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information
