Kia ora,

Decision IRC-6155

The Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the day we received your request.
Wellington City Council has partly granted your request for information. Where redactions are necessary or information withheld, a reason and appropriate grounds under the Act will be provided.

However, I do need a little more time to finalise the response. I anticipate a response to be sent to you by 26 April 2024, if not sooner.

Right of review
If you are not satisfied with the Council's response, you may request the Office of the Ombudsman to investigate the Council's decision. Further information is available on the Ombudsman website, http://www.ombudsman.parliament.nz/.

Thank you for your time and please be assured I'll be in touch as soon as possible.

Kind regards

The 20 working day time limit is to communicate a decision about the request - the information itself can be released at a later stage. But to be a decision, the agency must give the reasons for refusal. Above, the council has said they will "partly" grant your request, but have not given the reasons that some of your request is being refused.

You might want to point out that as their response has not communicated the refusal reasons within the time limit, their decision will be overdue as of 11 April.

I suggest also asking what "finalising" work is being done. Depending on what they are using this extra time for, it may be that they haven't truly made a "decision" in terms of the Act.
