From: Kimberlee Pett
Dear Alicia Shepherd,
Hi Alicia,
Could you please recheck your information.
We reported flood damage to our property for both events and this is not included in your information.
I would like to extend this request and ask how many rapid property assessments were completed on the damaged properties.
Yours sincerely,
Kimberlee Pett

Tēnā koe Kimberlee,
Official information request: RFS 4190153
Thank you for your response to the Far North District Council (‘Council’),
dated 3 February 2024 – asking that Council recheck its records in
relation to your original request, and further asking:
“I would like to extend this request and ask how many rapid property
assessments were completed on the damaged properties.” This further query
has also been considered in accordance with the provisions of the Local
Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (the ‘LGOIMA’).
Cyclone Gabrielle
Following our telephone discussion to clarify some details, I can confirm
that your report to Council in relation to damage caused to your property
by Cyclone Gabrielle is included in the information previously provided to
you. Specifically, it is one of the 28 properties affected by
slip/flooding. (The report was located under the name you advised me of
during our conversation.)
Auckland Anniversary Floods
Council has also rechecked its records and can confirm that it does not
appear to hold any reports from you of damage caused by the Auckland
Anniversary Floods.
Please note that Council do not monitor social media (i.e. Facebook) for
reports of damage.
Council’s response to your further query
Council does not identify inspections during a civil defence event by way
of a ‘Rapid Property Assessment’. During Cyclone Gabrielle, Council had
field staff available, and if called upon to do so, staff would inspect a
property to deem whether a property was at risk. That assessment was made
onsite and a report was not prepared.
Given Council does not hold all the further information sought, Council
must rely upon Section 17(e) of the LGOIMA – that is, “that the document
alleged to contain the information requested does not exist […]”.
You have the right to seek a review of this decision by the Ombudsman if
you so choose. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
[1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or Freephone 0800 802 602.
Thank you for your enquiry.
