Far North flood victims support.

Gary Whitehead made this Official Information request to Mark Mitchell

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Gary Whitehead to read recent responses and update the status.

From: Gary Whitehead

Dear Mark Mitchell, I am writing to you as the Recovery Minister.

I live in the Pupuke Valley in the Far North and my home was damaged in both Cyclone Gabrielle and the Auckland floods.

On the First of June the Government announced they would support councils with buyout and better protection of cyclone and flood affected properties.https://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/govt...

I have been informed by my Council, the Far North District Council, that they will not be assessing damaged properties and will not be supporting affected homeowners.

What Government support will be offered to affected homeowners in this case where Councils are not willing to support their residents, as you would expect we are struggling to move on with our lives with no support being available.

Yours faithfully,

Gary Whitehead

Dear Joanna Carr,

Thank you for your reply.
What are these "Statuary Responsibilities for land use" ?
Do they include assessing properties for appropriate land use?

You also haven't really answered my request which is; What Government support will be offered to affected homeowners in this case where Councils are not willing to support their residents?

I find it hard to believe the Government is offering assistance in every area but the most disadvantaged people who are only offered Counselling for mental health, Surely there's more substantial support?

Yours sincerely,

Gary Whitehead
