Information on change in suicide trend

Dear Ministry of Justice,

1. The governments Suicide web tool data shows that in the four years over the period of 2014 to 2018, the confirmed case absolute numbers of suicides increased with a steadily inclining trend.

2. The governments Suicide web tool data shows that in the five years over the period of 2014 to 2019, the suspected case absolute numbers of suicides increased with a steadily inclining trend.

3. The governments Suicide web tool data shows that in the four years over the period of 2014 to 2018, the confirmed case rate of suicides increased with a steadily inclining trend.

4. The governments Suicide web tool data shows that in the five years over the period of 2014 to 2019, the suspected case rate of suicides increased with a steadily inclining trend, with a slight anomaly in the suspected rate for 2018.

5. The governments Suicide web tool data also shows that after 2019, in the years 2020 and 2021, there is a declining trend of suspected cases of suicide.

6. Under the Official Information Act 1982, I would like to request any information, report or communication, that seeks to explain, justify, or give an analysis of, the 2019 - 2020 turn in the direction of the trend in the suspected suicide rate.

7. Under the Official Information Act 1982, I would like to request any information demonstrating any change in the classification of confirmed cases or the classification of suspected cases between the 2019 reporting period and the 2020 reporting period.

Health: 

o “…any information, report or communication, that seeks to explain,
justify, or give an analysis of, the 2019 - 2020 turn in the direction
of the trend in the suspected suicide rate.”

 

This information is believed to be more closely connected with the
functions of the Ministry of Health. In these circumstances, we are
