Contact tracing: any templates, decision trees, guidelines, or similar documents connected to contact tracing by contact tracers

Tom Barraclough made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Tom Barraclough to read a recent response and update the status.

From: Tom Barraclough

Dear Ministry of Health,

Thank you for your work responding to the pandemic.

I am curious to understand what kind of standardisation or methodology there is for contact tracers who are contact tracing with a positive Covid-19 case. I understand that contact tracing involves a rigorous interview process and I assume that this involves perhaps a standard form to be used, a conversation script, or training materials of some kind designed to ensure quality control.

Against that background, can you please provide

(1) any official information used by contact tracers, or given to contact tracers, to perform contact tracing according to a consistent process.

(2) Please also provide any training materials used to train contact tracers.

(3) Please provide any templates, decision trees, guidelines, or similar documents that illustrate a rough process followed by contact tracers in conducting contact tracing.

Thank you for your help with this request.

Yours faithfully,

Tom Barraclough

Kia ora Tom,

Thank you for your request for official information, received on 25
October 2021, for:

“(1) any official information used by contact tracers, or given to contact
tracers, to perform contact tracing according to a consistent process.

(2) Please also provide any training materials used to train contact
tracers.

(3) Please provide any templates, decision trees, guidelines, or similar
documents that illustrate a rough process followed by contact tracers in
conducting contact tracing.”

We are contacting you in accordance with section 18B of the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act) as your request, as it is currently worded,
is for a very large volume of information. Your request may be refused
under section 18(f) of the Act as the information requested cannot be made
available without substantial collation or research.

If it is possible for you to narrow the scope of your request by selecting
a shorter time frame or specifying a topic, we may be able to provide you
with information. Regarding part 1 of your request, I have been advised
that the training materials change rapidly and frequently, and therefore
limiting your request to a two-week period would enable the Ministry to
respond. I have also been advised that part 2 of your request covers a
very broad range of information. If you are able to make this more
specific, for example limiting this part of your request to training
materials used to train call centre contact tracers, this may enable the
Ministry to respond.

Please respond by COB 17 November 2021 so that we can consider your
refinement in our response to your request.

We look forward to receiving your response.
