What does 'strike' mean?

Mr M J Edmonds made this Official Information request to Ministry of Justice

Ministry of Justice did not have the information requested.

From: Mr M J Edmonds

Dear Ministry of Justice,

The Crimes Act uses the word 'strike' in a number of places (eg Section 56), yet the word is not defined in the Interpretation section.

Can you please provide any document (or a part of any document) that defines the word 'strike' as it is used in Section 56 of the Crimes Act. Please include training material, prosecution guides, decisions and any other relevant documents.

I am a New Zealander living in New Zealand.

Yours faithfully,

Mr M J Edmonds

Dear Mr Edmonds

I refer to your email of 4 June 2014 requesting, under the Official
Information Act, training material, prosecution guides, decisions and any
other relevant documents relating to the definition of ‘strike’, as used
in the Crimes Act 1961.

The Ministry of Justice holds no training material or prosecution guides
on this matter. Therefore, this part of your request is refused under
section 18(e) of the Official Information Act 1982 as the requested
information does not exist.

The rest of the material you seek is publicly available. Therefore, this
part of the request is refused under section 18(d) of the Official
Information Act 1982.

I can point you to material that may assist you to obtain the information
you seek. Adams on Criminal Law is a leading New Zealand text and
commentary on the criminal law in this country. It is available through a
number of libraries, including the National Library of New Zealand. It
includes commentary and discussion on relevant case law under section 56
of the Crimes Act. There is specific discussion of the term ‘strike’ in
the commentary under section 53 in that text.

You have the right under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act to
complain to the Ombudsman about the decision in relation to the
information you seek.

Yours sincerely,

Kelby Harmes
