Thank you for you Official Information Act 1982 request of 19 November
2017.

 

To assist you in your request, we request clarification in regards to
question A).

 

 A. How many people convicted of Murder, Rape or Manslaughter and other
violent offenders and were released have reoffended and convicted of
any crime since the above conviction and if there were repeat
offenders of the same charge, how many?

 

We have interpreted your question as referring to all specified violent
offences (as defined in section 86A of the Sentencing and Parole Reform
Act 2010) and intend to supply data for the period from 1 June 2005 to 31
May 2010.

 

Is this interpretation acceptable?

I refer to part of your Official Information Act (OIA) request transferred
from the Ministry of Justice and received by Police on 4 December 2017 in
which you requested the following:

 

·          “How many victims of murder, rape and manslaughter there have
been since the three strikes legislation came into effect (1 June 2010).”

 

Police started publishing the Recorded Crime Victims Statistics (RCVS) on
November 2014. Victimisation statistics cover the period from July 2014
onwards. Therefore, victimisation data is not available prior to July 2014
[section 18(g) of the OIA].

 

Police victimisations statistics is available online at policedata.nz.
However, whether these victimisations are within the three strikes rule
are not distinguished in our statistics.

 

I regret that on this occasion it has not been possible to provide the
information you have requested. I trust my response is still helpful in
guiding you to online holdings for such data.
