Dear KiwiRail,
Hello I have a request for you okay so it’s in regards to preservation attempts
Dc 4012 is historic as it’s one of the originals plus it has a history of being delivered in March 1978 along with 4006. The plan is upon withdrawal I am hoping that 4012 will find a home in the future to go to plus it’s a historical example and needs to be preserved for future generations when all DC’s become sidelined. 4012 will become a member for Rail Heritage Trust of New Zealand and its a historical value of greater importance to our nation.
4951 is the last Hutt Built and when withdrawn should go enter preservation and the only Hutt example of her kind left.
Currently only four Dc’s are preserved to date as far
4248, 4369 at Mainline Steam.
4818 at Glenbrook Vintage Railway.
4876 to join National Railway Museum of New Zealand.
4012 and 4951 are historical importance and hopefully they need to live on in the very near future. I just hope they can as they’re important.
They will need to be part of Rail Heritage Trust care and also if so find a home to base them weather or not it can be debatable on the subject.
That I am afraid is all I have to say.
Yours faithfully,
Colby James

KiwiRail
Good afternoon Colby
A quick email to say thank you for your enquiry.
I note it’s not a request for information as such, rather more of a call
for action re the DC class locomotives – I have however passed along your
concerns to the relevant department within KiwiRail for consideration.
Thanks for getting in touch.
Any further questions, please get in touch with me at this email address.
Kind regards
Dave
