Dear Alex

OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST

Thank you for your emailed request of 7 November 2013 to Lotto NZ. Your request was as follows:

What Quividi products does the NZ Lotteries Commission use, what for, and how?
Do the Quividi products store personally identifying information (e.g. photographs, video footage); if so, how long is it retained for and what measures are in place to protect it?
Was the Privacy Commissioner consulted on the use of this technology?

What Quividi products does the NZ Lotteries Commission use, what for, and how?

Lotto NZ trialled Quividi’s face detection software as part of a digital signage pilot. The pilot ran across 12 of our stores for a period of approximately one month in 2011.

It was used as an audience measuring tool to count customer numbers and identify whether customers were viewing the store’s digital signage.

Do the Quividi products store personally identifying information (e.g. photographs, video footage); if so, how long is it retained for and what measures are in place to protect it?

No.

Was the Privacy Commissioner consulted on the use of this technology?

As no personally identifying information was collected, the Privacy Commissioner was not consulted on this pilot.

Please contact me if you require any further clarification.

Kind regards

Emilia Mazur
Corporate Communications Manager
