I hope you are staying well.

 

Our apologies for the delayed response to your request for information
relating to costs associated with maintenance and repairs of the fountain
in St Patricks Square, Auckland CBD for the past five years. Thank you for
your patience while we have worked on this response.

 

In order to respond to your request, we have passed your request to the
council’s Community Facilities department to provide relevant information.

 

I have been advised it has been problematic to obtain information relating
to costs associated with the maintenance and repairs for the fountain
only, as the current full facilities contract is a lump sum contract. The
council’s full facilities maintenance contracts cover various types of
maintenance for areas by local board, such as the Waitematâ Local Bord. A
lump sum contract is an agreed annual contract sum to cover all the works
undertaken for the maintenance work for a particular local board.
Unfortunately, due to the limitations of our full facilities maintenance
contract and the current Covid-19 level 4 lockdown, we are unable to run
further report to provide the accurate costs for the maintenance of this
facility pre 2019/20 financial year.

 

The details of your request and our response is below:

 

Yearly budget for maintenance of the fountain

 

In terms of the maintenance of the fountain, this relates to planned
maintenance including plant (pumps, filtration, dosing and compliance) and
‘top side’ cleaning (leaves, litter) & structure fabric.

 

Please note there are two separate contracts for this work. 

 

The planned costs for the current finance year (FY) 2019/20 are $30,500
for plant maintenance and $17,888 for top side cleaning, which is a total
budget amount of $48,388. Please note this is as per the agreed schedule
made with the contractors, actual costs will be the same, unless work is
suspended as per Covid-19 Level 4 or if the council withholds payment due
to poor performance.

 

Yearly cost for maintenance of the fountain

 

Please refer to the above.

 

Breakdown of repairs carried out that fall outside of general maintenance,
including a description of work carried out and cost of each incident.

 

$18,842 capex cost was expended in 2018 to upgrade the strainer and
filtration system.

 

Response work to the plant includes various jobs (not able to specify),
which totals $9,752 in FY2018/19 and $5,041 to date in FY2019/20.

 

Any review or cost/benefit analysis to the general public for keeping this
fountain operational.

 

I have been advised no review has been undertaken.

 

Please note that the feature has been turned off since early February 2020
due to the drought and later Covid-19 L3/4 restrictions.
