    Dear Josh

I refer to your Official Information Act request of 14 October 2018 for
statistics on the numbers of attacks on women and men.

I have been asked to let you know that Police requires an extension of
time in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section 15A(1) of
the Official Information Act 1982, because the request necessitates
consultations such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably
be made within the original time limit.

Police require until 11 December 2018 to provide a substantive response to
 your request.

You have the right, under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act
1982, to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision to extend
the time limit for deciding upon your request.

Kind regards,

    Dear Josh,
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

Thanks for your request dated 14 October 2018 for the following:

·          Statistics relating to attacks on women
·          Statistics relating to attacks on males

Police proactively releases statistics to the public, which are updated
monthly. The requested information is available online at policedata.nz.
The ‘Victimisations (demographics)’ report will be the most useful for
your purposes. Please read the instructions on the summary page on how to
 use the report.
Specifically, you can go to the ‘Detail’ tab of the report. Select the
most appropriate offences under the ‘Crime Type’ Section (the expanded
version will include such offences as “Serious Assault Resulting in
Injury”, “Aggravated Sexual Assault”, etc.) using the control key. After
you have selected the offences, the ‘Sex’ Section would give you a
breakdown of the gender of the victims.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to call
 (04) 460 299 or contact us via [email address].
Yours sincerely,
