What were the total electricity costs to the city last financial year
(16-17)?

 

Response:

 

The break down for power use, 2016 to 2017 is as follows:

 

Council Buildings                              18 000 000
kWh                 $1 801 000

Three waters                                     28 691 000 kWh
                $5 500 000

Streetlights                                         25 426 000
kWh                 $4 934 000

Traffic lights                                          1 003 500
kWh                 $   150 000

 

Total costs, excluding GST $12 385 000

 

Please note:

 

o The total figure includes costs for power, network and administrative
charges
o The figure excludes costs to V Base and Eco Central as these are
managed outside of Christchurch City Council facilities management
o Power use costs vary from year to year, depending upon the weather and
new facilities coming on board 

 

 

In 2017, the Christchurch City Council received a Gold for both Energy
Mark and for Cemars (for managed energy use and carbon footprint) and was
the first council in New Zealand to obtain this accreditation.

The Council actively works to reduce energy use in all activities and to
use renewable alternatives. The result is a steady decrease in energy use
across all fuel sources. The Council also takes a regional and national
perspective to energy management by participating in regional
waste-to-energy initiatives and in the Transpower Demand Response Program.
