Police proactively release statistics to the public, which are updated
monthly. This information you requested is available online at
[1]policedata.nz . The‘Victimisations (demographics)’, ‘Proceedings
(demographics)’, and ‘Demand and Activity’ reports will be the most useful
for your purposes. Please read the instructions on the summary page on how
to use these reports. [Please refer to section 18(d) of the OIA].
Using Victimisations and Proceedings statistics, Police define family
violence as ‘Crimes Against the Person’ where the relationship of offender
to victim is family member or ex-boyfriend/girlfriend. ‘Crimes Against the
Person’ includes the following offence divisions: Acts Intended to Cause
Injury, Sexual Assault and Related Offences, Abduction and Kidnapping, and
Robbery, Extortion and Related Offences.
For demandand activity statistics related to family violence incidents you
can use the ‘Demand and Activity’ report to show the number of occurrences
for family violence related incidents reported to and recorded by Police.
Please note, demand and activity statistics do not include demographic
information such as gender.
Unfortunatelywe are unable to provide statistics prior to July 2014 due to
changes in Police’s statistical series in July 2014.
If any of this is unclear, please contact my team on 04 460 2999 or at

Hello,
Thank you for your response.
The "Detail" tab of the "Victimisations (demographics)" statistics doesn't show the sex of the victim for specific crimes as the graph showing the sex doesn't update when selecting categories.
See this image for example: https://i.imgur.com/DB920vw.png
With the options selected there should be a total of 74,040 but the number of female victims alone is 214,454, which is the same as it is when no categories are selected.
The "Detail" tab of the "Proceedings (offender demographics)" statistics has a similar problem.
See this image: https://i.imgur.com/qxPc5yB.png
From the options selected there should be a total of 14,418 but the number of males is 16,078, which is the same as it is when Parter is selected in the ROV group and the ANZOC division is set to "(all)".

Hello,
As I explained 5 months ago (I even provided pictures) this does not work.
For example,
1. Go to Proceedings (offender demographics)
2. Select the Detail tab
Note that in the default view, there are 76.1% male and 23.8% female. When hovering over them it shows 146,580 females and 468,370 males. On the right hand side, under Relationship of Offender to Victim, for Partner there are 20,821.
3. Under ANZSOC Division, select Acts Intended to Cause Injury
Under Relationship of Offender, it now shows Partner as 15,697. However, the graph under Sex has NOT changed, it still shows 76.1% male, 23.8% female, and when hovered over it still shows the number as 146,580 females and 468,370 males.
4. Under Relationship of Offender, select Partner.
The graph under Sex now updates to show 84.2% male and 15.8% female, when hovered over it shows female as 3,288 and male as 17,522, and also 11 "not stated".
As Partner is selected, there should be a total of 15,697, however the males alone is higher than this. Adding together the totals, 3288+17522+11, comes to 20832, ie. the number that is shown for Partner when the ANZSOC Division is set to "All".
The graph under Sex displays the values as if the ANZSOC Division or ANZSOC Group wasn't specified and shows the results of offenders from all offence categories.
Yours sincerely,
C Lawrence
