On what basis are you informed of prison visits by MPs?
Alex Harris made this Official Information request to Minister of Corrections
The request was partially successful.
From: Alex Harris
Dear Minister of Corrections,
Earlier this week, Newshub reported that you were kept informed of prison visits made by at least one Member of Parliament ("Collins outs Davis' prison source", Newshub, 16 February 2016). I would like to request the following information under the OIA
* How often are you informed of MP's visits to prisons, and the basis on which you are informed of them. Are you informed of all visits, only visits to certain prisoners, or only visits by certain MPs? Have you demanded this information from the Department of Corrections, or is it provided automatically under a "no surprises" policy?
* If you have specifically requested information on visits by MPs, I'd like copies of the request (if you have laid down broad parameters), or the last five requests (if you have requested information on the activities of individual MPs)
* Any advice you have received on the consistency of your being informed of prison visits with s161 Corrections Act 2004.
I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about
this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the
fyi.org.nz website.
With regards to s12 of the OIA, I am an NZ citizen and in NZ.
Yours faithfully,
Alex Harris

While this subsequent response addresses the questions to a greater degree than the first response, I am left feeling she does not directly answer the questions in some parts. I also sense that there may be some reluctance to answer the questions completely and instead chooses how to answer the question. This is typical of her style, particularly in the House.
Things to do with this request
- Add an annotation (to help the requester or others)
- Download a zip file of all correspondence

As the response did not address any of the actual questions asked, this as gone to the Ombudsman.
