Dear New Zealand Transport Agency,
Official Information Act Request – Speed Camera Enforcement Thresholds
I am requesting the following information:
What enforcement tolerance is currently applied to NZTA‑operated fixed speed cameras?
Does NZTA set the enforcement threshold, or is it set by NZ Police?
If NZTA does not set the threshold, please provide the document or agreement that states Police are responsible.
If NZTA does set the threshold, please provide:
a. The current threshold
b. The date it was set
c. The person or team who authorised it
Please provide all documents, memos, or emails since 2020 discussing speed‑camera enforcement thresholds or tolerances.
Please confirm whether NZTA is required to account for the known measurement error of speed‑detection devices (typically ±2–3 km/h) when setting thresholds.
Yours faithfully,
Nigel Gray
