From: Nigel Gray
Dear New Zealand Police,
Official Information Act Request –
I am requesting the following information:
What is the current operational speed‑enforcement tolerance applied by NZ Police for:
a. Mobile speed cameras
b. Fixed speed cameras
c. Hand‑held radar
d. Vehicle‑mounted radar
If NZ Police will not disclose the specific tolerance, please provide:
a. The legal basis for withholding it
b. The date the current tolerance was set
c. The agency or individual who authorised it
Does NZ Police set the enforcement threshold for NZTA‑operated fixed cameras?
If not, who does?
Does NZ Police require that any enforcement threshold must account for the known measurement error of radar and camera devices (typically ±2–3 km/h)?
Please provide all documents, memos, or emails since 2020 discussing speed‑enforcement tolerances or thresholds.
Yours faithfully,
Nigel Gray
