Dear Tasman District Council,
In a recent Newsline the Council stated: “With the increasing frequency of damaging weather and environmental events, preparedness is the key to coping in an emergency.”
I request the following official information: Please provide all evidence, data, reports, studies, statistics, risk assessments, or internal briefings that the Council relied upon to support the claim of an increasing frequency of damaging weather and environmental events in the Tasman District / Golden Bay area (or more broadly in New Zealand where relevant to this statement). Specifically, I am seeking: Any historical data or trend analysis on the frequency of weather-related emergencies, floods, storms, landslides, droughts, or other environmental events affecting the district. Any Council reports, climate change risk assessments, or emergency management documents that demonstrate this increasing trend. Details of the sources used to justify this statement. Any internal emails, meeting notes, or advice given to staff or councillors when drafting this newsletter text.

any event, no later than 3 June 2026, being 20 working days after the day
your request was received. If we are unable to respond by then, we
will notify you of an extension of that timeframe. For requests that are
likely to involve substantial collation and/or research, there may be a
charge for staff time. However, if this is the case, we will advise you
before we process your request, giving you the opportunity to decide
whether to proceed with the request.
In cases where the Council's response provides information that
is identified to be of general public interest, the response may be
published on the Councils website. If your request is published, all
personal information, including your name and contact details, will be
removed.
