Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982  (OIA) request of 31
March 2026, in which you requested:

" I seek the following information for the 2024 academic year:

1. The average grades for all papers offered by Victoria University of
Wellington.

2. The number of students enrolled in each course."

I am emailing to advise that your request as currently framed would
require substantial collation and research to respond, as the University
offers more than 2,000 courses and responding to your request would
require collating information from each, creating significant and
unreasonable impact on the University's ability to carry out its other
operations. Accordingly, your request is likely to be refused under
section 18(f) of the OIA.

In the first instance:

o A noted in our auto-response, if you are a student seeking grade
distributions please contact your course coordinator of lecturer
directly for this information.
o Additionally, please note that a large number of other individuals
have requested similar information via the FYI website. We encourage
you to view the University’s responses to previous OIA requests for
grade distributions on the FYI website (see here:
[1]https://fyi.org.nz/body/vuw) to determine whether any of the
information you are seeking is already publicly available.

If you find the information you are seeking from the above means, please
ensure you notify us by email if you wish to withdraw your OIA request
following this.

If you wish to proceed with your OIA request, in order to assist us in
preparing a response, can you please confirm whether you are happy to
amend your request to be limited to 10 courses of your choosing.

If there is any additional information you can provide that can assist us
to narrow the scope of your request, please let us know.

Please reply with confirmation of the above by 7 April 2026. If we do not
hear back from you in this time, we will proceed with your original
request.

Please note, any clarification or amendment of a request is considered to
be a new request for the purpose of calculating the maximum statutory
timeframe for response—see section 15(1AA) of the Official Information
Act.

Dear OIA Requests,

I have made a mistake and was actually asking for the 2025 average grades. I can cut it down to: BCOM101, BCOM102, ACCY130, INFO102, INFO101, COML111, ACCY131, STAT193.

If I could have the following about these courses in 2025:

1. Number of students receiving each grade (A+, A, A- etc)
2. Median grade for each course
3. Number of participants in each course.

Yours sincerely,

Benjamin Byrne
