Naenae College NCEA Failure Rates: What percentage of Year 11 students failed NCEA Level 1, Year 12 failed Level 2, and Year 13 failed Level 3?
Ronda made this Official Information request to Naenae College
The request was successful.
From: Ronda
Dear Naenae College,
Under the Official Information Act 1982, I request the following information regarding NCEA outcomes for 2025 (or the most recent complete academic year where full results are finalised):
1. What was the percentage of Year 11 students who failed to achieve NCEA Level 1 (i.e., did not attain NCEA Level 1 or above)? Please provide the exact figure, the total number of Year 11 students in the relevant cohort (participation/enrolment-based as applicable), and the number who did not pass.
2. What was the percentage of Year 12 students who failed to achieve NCEA Level 2 (i.e., did not attain NCEA Level 2 or above)? Please provide the exact figure, the total number of Year 12 students in the relevant cohort, and the number who did not pass.
3. What was the percentage of Year 13 students who failed to achieve NCEA Level 3 (i.e., did not attain NCEA Level 3 or above)? Please provide the exact figure, the total number of Year 13 students in the relevant cohort, and the number who did not pass.
Please provide the data broken down by the school's standard reporting method (e.g., participation-based or enrolment-based as used by NZQA), and include any notes on cohort definitions or changes due to the refreshed NCEA standards.
I expect this information to be released promptly and without undue redaction.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Ronda

Dear Naenae College,
I haven't received any response from you. It says my request was due on the 13th, it is now the 17th and I have heard nothing.
Yours faithfully,
Ronda

Thank you for your reminder about this OIA request.
I note on the FYI website that this request is dated 17 February. Our IT
department searched that date and subsequent dates, and we have not
received this request at any of our email addresses.
I am curious why you are only interested in our failure rates (email
title: Naenae College NCEA failure rates). Such a narrow view of our
results suggests you are not interested in a fair and balanced approach
but are only seeking an angle to attempt to discredit?
The detail you require is listed below.
In 2025
at Year 11: 164 students attempted NCEA, 87 passed and 77 did not
at year 12: 184 students attempted NCEA, 107 passed and 77 did not
at year 13: 114 students attempted NCEA, 77 passed and 37 did not
I note this is not your first OIA request. Would you be willing to meet
with me to outline your concerns? As with all things we are not perfect
and are always seeking to improve as a Kura; we would welcome any feedback
you may have.
Ngā mihi

Dear Principal,
I assume it's a technical email error. All I know is that I sent it.
I'm interested in both pass and fail. You can work out the NCEA pass rate FROM NCEA FAIL RATE. So I don't think it really matters which one would I ask for.
Someone sent me your fun fact Friday ncea stats post, but it appeared incomplete. Fortunately, I don't have any feedback or concerns about your KURA.
Yours sincerely,
Ronda
