Dear Ministry of Social Development,
Under the Official Information Act, I request the following data regarding disability-related benefits:
- The total number of individuals aged 18–30 currently receiving a disability-related benefit (e.g., Supported Living Payment on the grounds of health/disability or Disability Allowance).
- The total annual cost (expenditure) for providing these benefits to the 18–30 age group for the most recent financial year.
- The number of individuals aged 18–30 receiving a disability-related benefit who are currently recorded as being in: Full-time employment (30 hours or more per week). Part-time employment (less than 30 hours per week)."

On 10 February 2026 you emailed the Ministry of Social Development (the
Ministry) requesting, the retention rates of disabled peoples under the
Official Information Act 1982.
We have transferred your request to StatsNZ as the information to which
your request relates is not held by the Ministry but is believed to be
held by StatsNZ. In these circumstances, we are required by section 14 of
the OIA to transfer your request.
Please note that according to sections 14 and 15(1) of the Official
Information Act, the 20-working day response period is reset by the
transfer and starts again on the day StatsNZ receives the transfer
notification. The Ministry notified StatsNZ of the transfer today.
