Official Information Request - MbchB UTAS Disability Category Admissions Procedure

M made this Official Information request to University of Auckland

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for M to read a recent response and update the status.

From: M

Dear University of Auckland,

I am writing to request information under the Official Information Act regarding the admissions process into the MBChB programme through the UTAS Disability category.

1. Could you please confirm whether applicants under the UTAS Disability category, who are not offered one of the two allocated seats, are subsequently considered under the general admissions pool?

2. Does the University have a current and publicly accessible policy that outlines the ranking, assessment, and allocation process for applicants under the UTAS Disability category, particularly in cases where the allocated seats are already filled?

3. If no such public policy exists, I request a copy of the internal policy, process, or guidelines used by the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences to manage these admissions.

I would appreciate any documents, procedures, or information that clarify these points.

Yours faithfully,
M.

Dear requester,

I refer to your request of 3 October 2025. The University’s response follows.

“I am writing to request information under the Official Information Act regarding the admissions process into the MBChB programme through the UTAS Disability category.
1. Could you please confirm whether applicants under the UTAS Disability category, who are not offered one of the two allocated seats, are subsequently considered under the general admissions pool?”

Applicants who are considered under the Disability UTAS are also considered under the General Category. However, the process is managed so that applicants who perform well enough to receive General category offers are made offers under the General category rather than the Disability UTAS.

2. “Does the University have a current and publicly accessible policy that outlines the ranking, assessment, and allocation process for applicants under the UTAS Disability category, particularly in cases where the allocated seats are already filled?”
3. “If no such public policy exists, I request a copy of the internal policy, process, or guidelines used by the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences to manage these admissions.”

The key relevant publicly available policy and procedures are the following:
• Undergraduate Targeted Admission Schemes Policy and Procedures: https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/about-us/a...
• Medical and Health Sciences programme limitations - 1 July 2025 closing: https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/about-us/a...

The relevant internal process document is the Dean’s Determination (attached).

Yours sincerely,
