This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for E. Cameron to read recent responses and update the status.
From: E. Cameron
Dear University of Auckland,
I request the following information in relation to selection for the 2026 MBChB intake.
In the published 2026 Entry MMI invite GPA summary, the RRAS-Grad category for MBChB is shown with a single minimum GPA of 7.5 for MMI invitation, while the General Graduate category is split into separate “Gen-Grad (in progress)” and “Gen-Grad (completed)” GPAs.
[1] Please clarify how GPAs for RRAS graduate applicants are assessed for MMI invitation. Specifically, are separate minimum GPAs applied to:
(a). RRAS graduate applicants with a completed qualifying degree; and
(b). RRAS graduate applicants with an in-progress qualifying degree.
[2] If separate thresholds are used for RRAS graduates, please provide the minimum GPA required for MMI invitation in the 2026 MBChB admission cycle for:
(a). RRAS graduates with a completed qualifying degree; and
(b). RRAS graduates with an in-progress qualifying degree.
[3] If no separate thresholds are used for RRAS graduates, please confirm that the published RRAS-Grad GPA of 7.5 represents the minimum GPA for all RRAS graduate applicants invited to MMI for the 2026 MBChB intake, regardless of whether their degree was completed or in progress.
Yours faithfully,
E. Cameron

University of Auckland
Dear Requestor,
I refer to your request of 28 November 2025. As consultations necessary to
make a decision on your request are such that a response cannot reasonably
be given within the original time limit, the University has extended the
time limit for your request by 20 working days under section 15A(1)(b) of
the OIA.
The new maximum time limit for the University’s response is 17 February
2026; we will respond to your request as soon as reasonably practicable.
You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this extension.
Yours sincerely,
Farleigh Quinlivan

University of Auckland
Dear Requestor,
I refer to your request of 28 November 2025. The University’s response
follows:
“I request the following information in relation to selection for the 2026
MBChB intake.
In the published 2026 Entry MMI invite GPA summary, the RRAS-Grad category
for MBChB is shown with a single minimum GPA of 7.5 for MMI invitation,
while the General Graduate category is split into separate “Gen-Grad (in
progress)” and “Gen-Grad (completed)” GPAs.
[1] Please clarify how GPAs for RRAS graduate applicants are assessed for
MMI invitation.
The University's process for ranking applicants for MMI offers for the
MBChB Part II commencing in 2026 is as set out in the document entitled
"2026 Programme Limitations – Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences
(Programmes with 1 July application close date)", which is attached and
publicly available on our website at
[1]https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/about-us/a....
See in particular the Graduate Entry section under General Admission
Categories:
"Graduate Entry Applicants in the Graduate category may apply once only
for each qualification attained which meets entry requirements. In order
to be eligible for consideration, applicants must have:
• completed a degree, a postgraduate degree or a postgraduate diploma
qualification, normally in the minimum academic time from a New Zealand
university within the last five years with a GPA of 6.0 or higher, and
• completed the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT-ANZ) in the year
of application. Interview places will be offered on the basis of a ranking
derived from the cumulative GPA from the qualifying programme.
If final grades are not available at the time of interview ranking, an
interim grade (highest possible grade) will be temporarily assigned.
Official final results will be used for the final selection."
This statement also applies for RRAS Graduate applicants.
"Specifically, are separate minimum GPAs applied to:
(a). RRAS graduate applicants with a completed qualifying degree; and
(b). RRAS graduate applicants with an in-progress qualifying degree.”
Your questions relate to tables in the documents provided on our website
at
[2]https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/fmhs/study....
This webpage states the following:
"Information to support when reading these tables:
* Applicants can apply for multiple programmes (i.e. they may have
multiple ‘applications’)
* ‘Number of applicants invited to interview’ indicates the number of
applicants who meet the eligibility requirements and the GPA cut point
for a MMI invitation for a specific programme and category
* For MBChB, Gen-Grad (in progress) refers to applicants who are
applying under the General Graduate Entry category who are still
completing their qualifying programme and therefore have optimal
grades contributing to their GPA at the time of MMI invitations
* For MBChB, Gen-Grad (completed) refers to applicants who are applying
under the General Graduate Entry category who have completed their
qualifying programme and have their final GPA at the point of MMI
invitations"
As stated on this webpage:
"For 2023, 2024 and 2025 entry to clinical programmes, based on the number
of eligible applicants, we were able to invite all applicants who met the
‘eligibility GPA’ for all programmes for all categories.
In the years prior to 2023, the GPA cut off for MMI interview offers was
considerably higher than the minimum eligibility GPA, and we saw a return
to that this year."
If we were not able to invite all MBCHB applicants who met the eligibility
GPA to the MMI, we set GPA cut-offs for MMI offers. The data provided in
the documents published on our website on the Clinical Admissions
Selection webpage is accurate. All 35 RRAS Grad applicants to the Part II
MBChB commencing in 2026 who received MMI offers were at or above the GPA
cut-off of 7.5, whether or not they had optimal grades contributing to
their GPA at the time of MMI invitations. It was not necessary to set
different GPA cut-offs for RRAS Graduate applicants with and without
optimal grades contributing to their GPA at the time of MMI invitations.
“[2] If separate thresholds are used for RRAS graduates, please provide
the minimum GPA required for MMI invitation in the 2026 MBChB admission
cycle for:
(a). RRAS graduates with a completed qualifying degree; and
(b). RRAS graduates with an in-progress qualifying degree.
N/A
[3] If no separate thresholds are used for RRAS graduates, please confirm
that the published RRAS-Grad GPA of 7.5 represents the minimum GPA for all
RRAS graduate applicants invited to MMI for the 2026 MBChB intake,
regardless of whether their degree was completed or in progress.”
We can confirm that a GPA cut-off of 7.5 was applied to RRAS Grad
applicants for the MBChB Part II commencing in 2026 for MMI offers,
regardless of whether (i) the applicant was still completing their
qualifying programme and therefore had optimal grades contributing to
their GPA at the time of MMI invitations or (ii) the applicant completed
their qualifying programme and had their final GPA at the point of MMI
invitations.
