Increase in Medical School Places
Sarah Smith made this Official Information request to University of Auckland
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Sarah Smith to read recent responses and update the status.
From: Sarah Smith
Dear University of Auckland,
The article below outlines that a further 50 students will be allocated across the two medical schools at the University of Auckland and the University of Otago.
https://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/gove....
Although the allocation of these extra places may not be finalised, I would like to request and email transcripts, meeting minutes, letters, or communications that the University of Auckland has received in regard to this. Furthermore, I would like to confirm if these places will be made available for students applying in 2023 for the 2024 cohort, or students applying in 2024 for the 2025 cohort. Finally, I would like to request any information or available communications surrounding how the additional seats will be allocated (e.g. X to general students, X to MAPAS, X to SWD etc) or the general process through which this will be considered.
Yours faithfully,
Sarah Smith

University of Auckland
Dear Sarah,
I refer to your request of 25 July 2023. As consultations necessary to
make a decision on your request are such that a response cannot reasonably
be given within the original time limit, the University has extended the
time limit for your request under section
15A(1)(b) of the OIA. The new maximum time limit for the University’s
response is 28 August 2023; we will respond to your request as soon as
reasonably practicable. You have the right to make a complaint to an
Ombudsman if you are dissatisfied with this extension.
Yours sincerely,
Landon Watt

University of Auckland
Dear Sarah,
I refer to your request of 25 July 2023. I can advise the following:
1. 30 additional domestic places will be available for the University of
Auckland’s MBChB Part II programme commencing in 2024.
2. Limits for the 2024 Regional/Rural Admissions Scheme and UTAS (MAPAS,
Students with disabilities, Students from refugee backgrounds, and
Students from low socio-economic background) are determined by the
University’s Council under the University’s Limitation of Entry
Statute
([1]https://www.calendar.auckland.ac.nz/en/g...).
Proposed limits for the Part II MBChB for 2024 were considered by the
University’s Senate at its meeting of 24 July 2023. The relevant
materials are attached. This matter was then considered by the
University’s Council at its meeting of 21 August 2023. The Part A
agenda and materials are publicly available on the University’s
website
([2]https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/about-us/a...).
Minutes for Council’s meeting of 21 August 2023 will be made publicly
available on the same webpage in due course. This constitutes a
partial refusal of your request under section 18(d) of the OIA.
Your request for emails and communications about additional places being
made available to the University of Auckland is broad and the documents
requested cannot be provided without substantial collation or research.
This constitutes a refusal of your request under section 18(f) of the OIA.
You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this response.
Yours sincerely,
Landon Watt
