Request for Correspondence on Keeping the "Kate Sheppard" pedestrian lights
Tony Randle made this Official Information request to Wellington City Council
The request was partially successful.
From: Tony Randle
Dear Wellington City Council,
It has been claimed by Councillor Young that "The NZ Transport Agency gave Wellington City Council a year to trial the ‘green woman’ lights at pedestrian crossing around Parliament. But now NZTA is consulting the Council on whether they should stay or go." (Ref: http://www.keepkate.nz/)
It has also been claimed by Councillor Lester that "NZTA has confirmed the lights are not under threat and there is no intention of removing them." and that "Wellington City Council is working closely with NZTA to extend the trial" (Ref: http://wellington.scoop.co.nz/?p=81787)
1) Can I please have a copy of all correspondence between the NZTA and the WCC since 1 April 2015 on the subject of the Kate Sheppard pedestrian light trial ?
2) Can I please have a copy of the confirmation held by the WCC from the NZTA that "the lights are not under threat and there is no intention of removing them." ?
3) Can I please have a copy of the correspondence between the WCC and the NZTA on extending the Kate Sheppard lights trial ?
If this information is held in electronic form, I would prefer it was provided to me in its complete and original electronic format. Also, I would prefer any correspondence on this information request be via the FYI web site.
Yours faithfully,
Tony Randle

Dear BUS: IRO,
On the 16th of September, I asked the WCC for information related to keeping the Kate Sheppard Lights via the FYI web site (Reference: https://www.fyi.org.nz/request/3154-requ...). Receipt of this information request was acknowledged the same day by the WCC.
However, even though a substantive response was due by the 14th of October, I have yet to receive any further written response from the WCC to my information request. Can you please provide me with a status update on this information request including when I may expect a substantive response from the WCC ?
Yours sincerely,
Tony Randle

Dear Chris Brown,
Thanks for the substantive response. Most of the information seems to be there except WRT the WCC Email from Joelene Birmingham (17/9/2015 3:31pm). This email states:
"Please find the attached letter from Geoff Swainson regarding the above.
I have put a hard copy in the post for you".
However, the attached letter referred to in the email does not appear to be provided in the WCC response.
Can the WCC please also provide a copy of the letter from the WCC that requested an extension to the exemption for the Kate Sheppard traffic lights ?
Yours sincerely,
Tony Randle

Hello Tony,
Thank you for your patience.
The Council has had to retrieve archived data from offsite, and go through this to see if we can locate one of the documents you have asked us to find. I will be in touch when we locate it.
As for the second document, the letter from the Council to NZTA requesting permission to continue using the Kate Sheppard light designs, please find that letter attached.
Kind regards
Chris

Hello Tony,
Staff have looked in all possible places for a soft copy of the letter in question.
Data storage tapes have been recalled and searched, and all emails sent and associated folders have been loked through also.
We are unable to find a copy of the letter.
I am sorry, but we are unable to assist any further with this.
Kind regards
Chris
