The University has recently announced that discussion of the "proposed new faculty arrangements: Business and Economics, Law" was moved from the University Council's meeting on 17/03/2025 to "an extraordinary meeting, likely to be held before the end of March".

Please provide all information possible regarding:
- the initial decision for the Council's review of the "proposed new faculty arrangements" to take place during the "closed" portion of the Council's 17/03 meeting;
- the Vice-Chancellor's request "for the matter to be considered in Part A (the open section) of the Council meeting";
- the decision to remove this discussion from the 17/03 meeting; and
- when the "proposed new faculty arrangements" will be discussed.

our response.  The University’s response follows:

 

‘The University has recently announced that discussion of the "proposed
new faculty arrangements: Business and Economics, Law" was moved from the
University Council's meeting on 17/03/2025 to "an extraordinary meeting,
likely to be held before the end of March".

Please provide all information possible regarding:

- the initial decision for the Council's review of the "proposed new

Council's 17/03 meeting;

- the Vice-Chancellor's request "for the matter to be considered in Part A
(the open section) of the Council meeting";

 

Please find attached a document titled 3203_Council meeting on Monday
March 17.pdf_Redacted.pdf

 

Some information has been redacted under s 9(2)(a) to protect the privacy
of natural persons.

 

We have identified one document that has been withheld under s 9(2)(h), to
maintain legal professional privilege and three documents that have been
withheld under s 9(2)(g)(i) to maintain the effective conduct of public
affairs through the free and frank expression of opinions by or between or
to members of the University in the course of their duty.

 

- the decision to remove this discussion from the 17/03 meeting; and

We have identified a single document that relates to the information
requested.  This document has been withheld under s 9(2)(h), to maintain
legal professional privilege

 

- when the "proposed new faculty arrangements" will be discussed.’

At the date of this response, we understand that the Vice-Chancellor has
decided to pause the proposal and will instead support a suite of
collaborative faculty initiatives that response to the challenges driving
the original proposal, and reflect the extensive feedback received from
